Dunlop vs. Talalay Latex

So Dunlop vs. Talalay Latex. What’s the difference? Mattresses play a large role in our health and wellness and even influence our moods. The recommended daily amount of sleep is about 7 to 8 hours per day and at that rate, we spend about a third of our lives sleeping. An old, worn-out mattress can wreak havoc on your back and joints, not to mention decreasing how well-rested you feel when you wake up in the morning. Don’t spend a third of your life on a decrepit mattress that hurts your back and leaves you waking up on the wrong side of the bed. Instead, you may want to consider a new organic latex mattress.

Types Of Latex

Latex mattresses typically come in two varieties: Dunlop latex and Talalay latex. Before mattress shopping, you may want to understand the pros and cons of each type. There are a few differences in the manufacturing processes for each type that you should consider.

Dunlop Latex

Both types of latex use the same raw materials, but the manufacturing process differs. Dunlop latex is typically favored more by climate-friendly individuals because the manufacturing process is less harsh on the environment. The Dunlop manufacturing process is known to use less energy than the Talalay process and has a smaller carbon footprint.

Even if you aren’t passionate about the environment, you will notice that both types of a latex feel different. While it’s true that both types of latex are available in hard, medium, and soft varieties, Dunlop latex is known for being noticeably denser and heavier than its equal Talalay counterpart. Additionally, you can typically find Dunlop latex at a slightly cheaper price than Talalay latex.

Talalay Latex

Conversely, the Talalay process for creating latex expends more energy and is viewed by some as a more wasteful process, although some people swear that there is no substitute for Talalay latex. This type of latex has a reputation for being more elastic and springier than Dunlop latex, even at the same hardness or softness level. Unfortunately, Talalay usually costs a little bit more. This is likely due to the fact that it costs more to manufacture latex using the Talalay process. There are a few variations and additional steps to the Talalay manufacturing process, such as freezing the sap and raw material mixture before baking it.

If you are still unsure which type of latex would suit you better, the only thing left to do is to see which one actually feels better to you. We can talk about latex manufacturing forever, but at the end of the day, you are probably want to know what each type feels like.
