No Big Deal, It’s Just For the Kids

You want the best mattress for your little one, so why give them a $99.00 dollar twin size mattress and boxsping set?

It’s true many parents will spend $80.00 to $100.00 dollars on a pair of name brand shoes or jeans. They will even spend $200.00 on a name brand coat and tons more than that on a Play Station or some other video game related items. But when it is time to buy a mattress many parents refuse to spend more than a hundred dollars on a set of bedding for their children, even though the children spend 1/3 of their life in bed.

If you want what best for her, why the hand-me-down bed? Dust mites and other allergens are common in old mattresses. Old mattresses tend to be just that old, and not too mention most are worn out. There useful life has been greatly exceeded. Is this beneficial for the child? Probably not.

We encourage parents to give their child every advantage, so consider these facts:

  • Good nighttime posture is important to your child’s spinal development, because 70% of a child’s posture is formed during sleep.
  • A child should spend 8-12 hours a night in bed. It is the renewal process for the body.
  • Educators believe that getting a good night’s sleep is the single most important factor in a child’s ability to retain information and make good grades.
  • Studies show that healing tissue growth occurs mainly during sleep.
  • Sleep is essential for good health and weight management.

Not a day goes by when a parent comes through the doors of my store shopping for a new mattress and boxspring for their child. I typically ask the question, “Will this be for your self or…” – then it happens – they interrupt me and make the annoying statement that “it’s only for my kids.”

It is said with a tone that says “Give me the cheapest thing you got. My child does not matter.” As sure as water is wet, the very next question out of my mouth is, “So from the sound of it you’re looking for a very good quality mattress.” Suddenly the reality of what they just asked for, always seems to hit the parents like a ton of bricks.

I do not have kids, but if I were to have children it would be important for me to do my utmost to provide my child with every advantage life has to offer. An example might be that I would plan for my kids’ future with a college fund if I were financially able to do so. However I would not send them to school without breakfast or lunch money when I have the money to do so. I think many parents share these same feelings. So it is important to take a step back and remember not to be thrifty with such an important purchase.

One way to provide for your child’s well-being is to invest in a quality mattress; a mattress set that will support your child properly and help them get many years and nights of quality sleep.

So how much is a quality mattress going to cost? Many industry insiders believe $300.00 – $400.00 is the magic number to spend on a mattress in order to find ideal support, comfort, and durability, yet the reality is that most parents spend $100.00-$200.00.
