Punctured Air Bed What Can I Do?

I punctured my air bed and now there is a hole and of course it won’t hold air. Is there a way to fix this without having to go to the store and purchase a repair kit? It’s very late at night and most of the stores are closed and I am without a mattress at the moment. I have attempted to use a bike tire repair kit but it will not stick. Are there any other options I might find around the home and what other options do I have?

There is a right and a wrong way to patch an airbed and if it is not done correctly it can jeopardize the possibility of it ever getting repaired properly and holding air so you can use the mattress in the future.

How to determine what kind of repair kit you need for and Air Bed

You first need to determine if it is built from vinyl or rubber.  Rubber airbed mattresses tend to be heavier and will sometimes have a slight smell that resembles that of a tire, rubber bands, or even a rubber ball.  Vinyl air beds tend to be thinner, lighter weight with a more chemical type smell. They often resemble that of an inflatable air toy like a floating lounge raft used in a swimming pool. Whichever you have both can often be fixed.

How to fix Airbeds

Purchase a vinyl repair kit for vinyl airbeds or a rubber patch kit for rubber airbeds. You usually only get one good shot at doing this right because the adhesive or rubber cement once applied will muck up the surface where you are attempting to get the patch to stick, so follow the directs and use the correct kit.

Is there anything I can use to get me by until I am able to purchase a repair kit?

Again if you introduce substances like duct tape, super glue, and whatever else might seem to work for a short term fix you introduce substances to the damaged area that may be hard to remove or worse yet may not come off making it nearly impossible to get a rubber or vinyl patch to stick long term for future use. High end mattresses that have a fabric sheath over it may not be able to be repaired, you will need to contact the maker of the mattress.
NOTE: Seams and corners are generally considered non-repairable since they were never glued in the first place. Contact your dealer or store if the mattress is still under warranty.
