Adding Support For King Bed – Bed Frame Support Blocks

You finally did it, you bought one of those giant king-size mattress sets you’ve always dreamed of and now you realize the bedding is more expensive, they are heavy and much wider than you thought. These wider beds can have a major drawback to them especially when compared to the smaller queen and full-size mattresses which are less likely to start sagging prematurely.

Add in these beds have to carry additional support of an adult couple, the kids, and the family pets there is a real situation about to develop, sagging. Instead of supporting the bed with bricks and cinder blocks consider a stable and good-looking solution that will properly distribute bed weight and add many years of life to your sleep system. Think about adding bed support slats to your king bed. Frame choices can be shopped below.

Best Supports Under A King Size Bed

The best supports for a king-size bed are usually those that do not come standard with the bed when you buy it. Surprisingly, many brand new king-sized beds do not come with ample support underneath to hold up and stabilize the middle of the bed.  Some Kings and California Kings have nothing at all.

While most king-size beds come with headboards and footboards, they rarely include a support system that will stand the test of time. The majority are nothing more than cheap wooden legs that are weak and slide out of position. The legs are anchored to low-grade wooden slats. These are all for the standard size.

Our Solution To The Problem:

We recommend steel center support systems. These are typically sold separately by companies like Glideaway, Leggett & Platt, and Knickerbocker who specialize in heavy-duty metal bed frames made of super-hardened steel. In addition, to complete frames, manufacturers build special center support systems for the middle of the beds that have wooden and metal side rails as a low-cost solution to a new bed frame.

What Kind Of King Support Frame Do You Need?

Follow these steps to make sure you get the right king support frame:

  • Determine if your frame will need to connect to a headboard or a headboard and footboard.
  • Does the bed currently have metal side rails or wood?
  • Do these bed rails attach by nuts and bolts or does it hook into vertical slots?
  • Measure the space between the bottom side of your boxspring and the floor. Make sure the frame or support legs will reach from the bottom of the boxspring down to the floor for proper support.

  • What Do You Put Under A Bed Frame For Support? – A box spring is a heavy platform that you put under your mattress. Most box springs are made out of a wooden skeleton with spring coils. The spring coils provide bounce and durability for your bed. A thin layer of sheeting or cushion covers the box spring.
  • How Do I Add More Support To My Bed Frame?Add Bed Slats – If you have a basic run-of-the-mill bed frame that has only a perimeter and a supportive center beam, adding slats will beef it up so it’s more sturdy and supportive. This will help combat mattress sagging, and will enable your bed frame to withstand more weight
  • What Is The Best Base For A Bed? – A slatted bed base is optimal for the best air circulation you can get. It will also help you if your bed base can add some extra springiness to your mattress, and if you can adjust the level of springiness. For this, an adjustable slatted base is best.
  • What Do I Put Under My Mattress On The Floor? – When your mattress on floor without box spring it may slide around, especially if it’s on a tile or slippery surface. Consider putting a rug or mat under the mattress to keep it in place. You could attach velcro pads to the mattress and floor but a mat, carpet or rug should suffice.
  • Does A Bed Foundation Need A Frame?Do You Need a Bed Frame? If you use box springs as a bed foundation, you don’t technically need a bed frame. Regardless of what it’s sitting on, the box spring will support and protect your mattress. Any surface will work as long as it supports the span and weight of you, your mattress, and your bed springs.
